Aerial photography captures the essence and beauty of midcoast Maine, almost as well as seeing it with the naked eye. Ron purchased the 1946 J3 Piper Cub from his grandfather, Hugo Lehtinen, who pioneered aerial fish spotting in the early 1950s. The J3 Cub is a lightweight, 2-person plane, owned and piloted by Ron. If you are unfamiliar with the J3 Cub, its exterior is primarily canvas, the engine boasts a whopping 95 horsepower, and we must “climb” in through the window/door to get into our seats! The advantage of all of this (beside adventure) is that we can fly at quite a low altitude, snapping photos of the magnificent sites around us. The plane is outfitted with floats from June through October, allowing us to jump from one favorite harbor, lake, or island to another.
Our aerial photography is truly a work of pleasure – not of profession. However, the pictures pay tribute to the beauty of the midcoast, to the area we love and to some of the greatest times we have had and the best places we have seen. Here is a small selection of our aerial photos. If you are interested in having aerial photographs of your Maine home, your sailboat, or one of the many beautiful areas around us, we welcome the opportunity to work with you.
